The global anime industry has reached a record $31.5 billion in total revenue, according to the latest annual report from the Association of Japanese Animations. This represents a 12% increase from the previous year.
International markets now account for over 50% of total revenue for the first time, driven by streaming subscriptions, theatrical releases, and merchandise sales outside Japan.
The streaming segment showed the strongest growth at 18% year-over-year, while theatrical anime films contributed $4.2 billion globally. Merchandise and licensing remained the largest single category.
The report forecasts continued growth, projecting the industry could reach $40 billion within the next three years if current trends continue.
